History Our History We have a long history here in our community - longer than many gyms and fitness centers available to you today. 1999 Tom Spiece had a vision of opening one of his retail stores (jeans, shoes, sporting goods) in a building that would house Gym Rats Basketball and a health club. Tom purchased the old Supervalu Warehouse and began construction on Spiece Fieldhouse. April 2000 Gym Rats, Inc moved into Spiece Fieldhouse and offered its 1st basketball tournament, with the building still under construction. Owned by the late Bill Hensley & Gerald Hirschy, Gym Rats had been operating its camps and tournaments at various gyms in other cities* since 1993. January 2001 Spiece Fitness, LLC was opened by owners Aaron Shively and Anne Davis. The facility was 20,000 Sq Ft and occupied the north end of the building (where PT, Spa, and Admin are now). August 2002 Tom closed Spiece Retail to allow for Spiece Fitness expansion, which was in negotiation with Continuum Clubs Inc. out of Napa California. Tom changed his retail focus to internet sales (denimexpress.com) and his local store in Wabash, IN. May 2003 Spiece Fitness LLC was officially sold to Continuum Clubs who was preparing to open the new medically-based fitness facility. June 2003 Phase I: The newly renovated Spiece Lifestyle Medical Center opened on June 2nd, now offering pools, a deli/juice bar, family memberships, youth programs, and expanded locker rooms, services, and amenities. March 2004 Phase II: Spiece Day Spa opened offering massage, skincare, nail care, body treatments. October 2004 Phase III: The Medical Center opened with a mission to house physician tenants & nurse practitioners in a turn-key operation for satellite medical offices. The focus would eventually change to Physical Therapy and health-related tenants. May 2007 The assets of Spiece Fitness LLC were sold to Ace Performance Team LLC, owned by Tom Spiece and Anne Davis, which continues operating Spiece Fitness and Spiece Day Spa. August 2011 In collaboration with Fort Wayne Orthopedics, Spiece Sports Performance LLC was formed by Tom Spiece and several individual partners. 2015 changes Spiece Day Spa was sold to Cala Deia Spa who is now leasing in the same location, owned by Deia Frohriep. OPS was sold to FWO and they moved to the Ash Centre. Gym Rats moved their office out but still leases courts and Ace Performance Team manages the courtside. January 2021 Spiece Fieldhouse and Ace Performance Team were officially sold to Spiece Fieldhouse LLC. They are investing millions of dollars into the facility to turn it into a multi-sport facility with a Fitness center, Adrenaline Family Adventure, and restaurant. March 2021 Phase I: The newly renovated Spiece Fitness with new layout, new equipment, newly remodeled men's and women's locker rooms, and members-only entrance on the north side of the facility. Also extended and remodeled the women's restroom and men's restroom in the Fieldhouse main hallway. June 2021 Phase II: Removed 2 basketball courts to add Turf Fields for baseball and other sports. Inside the old fitness center area will now be the Adrenaline Family Adventure with climbing walls, rope course, VR system, Toddler Room, Crazy courts, and much more...
